New Harmony History

Today Alisann and I took the boys to New Harmony again. We had planned on just walking through the town and letting them run through the labyrinth. When we got there they were having a children's festival where they showed how they used to make all kinds of different things back in the old days. Alisann and I were so excited to see all this. I remember going to this when I was a kid and in school, but I don't think I cared a lot about the stuff then. Now I was totally fascinated by everything. They showed us how to make rope and Christian got to take one home to keep. They also showed us how to make soap and Alisann and I both purchased a bar of it. It is supposed to help with bug bites and sores and stuff. They also had homemade kettle corn and pork rinds that we got to snack on. The boys also enjoyed some rock candy. After we saw everything in town we headed to Main St. to eat lunch and have ice cream. We love that little Italian place there. They have the best food ever!

Random Thoughts

I have been working off and on getting pictures scanned into my computer for photobooks. I am really close to being all finished scanning and having all my pictures organized in albums. It is such a relief to have this so close to being finished. I was hoping to have it all completely done before we left for vacation but I think I will still have some left when we get back. My new goal is to have all my photobooks completed by end of summer. This will be a hard goal to accomplish, because I like to spend every second I can outside in the summer and I don't really like working on my laptop outside because it is hard to see what I am doing. I figured I would work on it in the early mornings and late evenings and on rainy days. Jamie will be off all summer, so I am hoping for some craft days on some of those rainy days to get things done also. That always makes it more fun to work on projects when you can do it with friends.
I am also working on deep cleaning our house before we leave. I am making pretty good progress with that this week. I am trying to do a little bit each day. I love when everything is all clean and neat. When I say deep clean I mean everything. I am cleaning out under couches and beds. I have been dusting window sills and baseboards. The whole nine yards. I was hoping to have everything cleaned out and organized, but I think I am going to wait until we get back. My yard sale pile was getting out of control and I figured it might be better to wait until it is closer for time to the yard sale. I am wanting to sit down and read all my Pottery Barn books this summer and get our house decorated and organized. They have so many awesome ideas in these books. I am hoping when we get back from vacation I will be refreshed and ready to tackle all my projects.

Another thing I am going to try is eating a little healthier. Don't get me wrong I don't eat that bad and I don't really need to lose weight according to the doctors average standards. I know if I lost ten pounds I would feel better. I would love to be back into a size 4 comfortably. Right now some size 4 things are a little tight and I am wearing a 6. I feel like I have held on to an extra 5 or 10 pounds since I have had Christian and I would love to get it off. The problem is there isn't much that I am willing to sacrifice to do it. I don't believe in Weight Watchers or other fad diets. I have seen people get results with them , but they usually end up back where they started once they quit whatever fad diet they were on. I think the most effective would be looking at what you eat and try to eat as fresh and healthy as possible. My Mother In Law has done an awesome job with this. She has lost so much weight and she looks and feels great. She has done it all by eating healthy. I know my biggest problem is that I only eat two meals a day. I eat a little something for lunch and then I eat a huge dinner and I usually don't eat dinner until 8:00 p.m. and I go to bed at around 10:00. I need to try and eat smaller meals more often. My sister martha is going to school to be a nutritionist/personal trainer. She is working on a healthy eating plan for me and is going to help get my portions under control. I know some diets can help with portion control by counting points, but what good does it do if you are still eating unhealthy. I am going to try and start this eating healthier thing when we get back. I think if I would just eat breakfast and have a couple of healthy snacks through out the day I wouldn't be so hungry for dinner and would eat less. Before I had Christian I never ate sweets. When I was pregnant with him I acquired a sweet tooth. It's not as bad as when I was pregnant but I do tend to eat more sweet things than I used to. These are my weaknesses and I need to try and work on them. I am sure I will not have much luck. I am kind of stuck in my ways when it comes to my food and it's not like I am at an unhealthy weight or anything. This is just something I want to try.

I also thought I would share this last thing. I have recently started wearing Benefit make-up and I absolutely love it. I was using MAC for years and I wanted to try something different. I tried the Bare minerals make up because people were going on and on about it. Well I hated it! It works and looks great on some people, but it was not for me. I switched and decided to try Nars. I really liked there blush and bronzer, but I wasn't crazy about anything else. Let me tell you also that when I try out make-up I like to buy everything in that brand to try. I am weird like that. I once got a hug from the lady at the MAC counter because I bought so much product at one time. I know it's a little embarrassing and I have a problem. I was about to give up on finding a new make-up line and just go back to MAC (It has been my favorite up to this point) when I finally decided to try Benefit. I had heard some good things about them. I love everything they have. Their lipgloss is by far the best lipgloss I have ever used. It doesn't have a bad taste like some do and it feels like velvet on your lips. I am so excited about there products! My next quest is finding a new exfoliator and face wash. I have been trying all different kinds from Philosophy and some other brands and they are all just okay. My two all time favorite brands on skin care have been the MAC microfine refinisher and their cream wash cleanser and Mary Kay's Timewise exfoliator and face wash. Jamie is selling Mary Kay now so once I finish up all the stuff I have I think I am going to give the Timewise a try again. I loved this product and had great results with it when I was using it.

Taking It Easy

We are spending our Sunday afternoon relaxing around the house. This morning Jason went fishing with his friend Blair. They didn't have much luck catching fish, but they had a good time hanging out. I spent the morning cleaning up a few things around the house, catching up on my blogs and playing outside with Christian. We are going to try and get some things ready for our vacation today and do some laundry. It's nice to finally have a day that we don't have any obligations to be at. We can do whatever we feel like. I think we might rent a movie to watch tonight to finish the day off.

Emma's First Communion

Tonight we celebrated our Niece Emma's First Communion. The Ceremony took place at St. John's Catholic Church in Newburgh. I did Emma's hair for her and her Grandma Shetler helped her get dressed. She looked so beautiful! The ceremony was so nice. Afterwards we all went over to Becky and John's for dinner. Jason smoked pork butts and made homemade barbeque sauce. Becky made pasta salad, cheesy potatoes, corn bread casserole, green beans, and baked beans. Everything was so good! Jason smoked almost 15 lbs. of meat and everything was completely gone! We got Emma a picture album to put pictures from this special day in. It was a very busy fun filled day!
